Berwyn — the 'Welsh Roswell' (Wales, 1974)
On the night of January 23, 1974, residents of Bala, Llandrillo and Llanderfel heard loud bangs and saw a bright light over the Berwyn mountains. Ufologists spoke of a crashed, covered-up UFO.
What is claimedIt is claimed something fell and the British government secretly recovered a craft (the 'Welsh Roswell'); an RAF rescue team went up that night.
Skeptical viewThe National Archives files explain it as an 8:32pm earth tremor (a landslide that sounded like detonation) coinciding with a bright meteor seen over Wales; the RAF found no wreckage.
